Today we’re making a stop in West Virginia because West Virginia is beautiful and because West Virginia contains Charleston, which is itself one of the most unheralded beautiful cities in the country. And so are super excited to be featuring this gorgeous riverside wedding from Emily Porter Photography in none other than Charleston, WV. Because West Virginia is for lovers and apparently beautiful city weddings.
From the bride, Emma: “Geoff and I met in architecture school at the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, TN. When it came time for us to search for a wedding venue, we wanted to have a vibrant, architecturally inspired, preferably outdoor and downtown wedding. Our goal was to share our city with our friends, who were traveling from across the county, as we see it: the “wild and wonderful” urban core of West Virginia.”
“The Charleston Civic Center is not typically used for weddings. We were the first couple to ever use their lobby as our reception space, and we had to incorporate a lot of details (lanterns, curtains, trees, lights, etc.) in order to bring down the scale and acoustics and to achieve the intimate setting we imagined. However, just one look at the concrete balcony and fully glazed windows running the length of our reception hall, overlooking downtown Charleston, and we knew that it would be magnificent for capturing our style, and city, on our wedding day.”
